Welcome to the U3A in Royal Tunbridge Wells, which has members from 'The Wells' and surrounding villages. U3A is an exciting organisation which offers great opportunities. It was set up in 1991 and has over 900 members.
A meeting with an outside speaker is held in the Camden Centre at 2.30pm on the third Thursday each month; we also have an informal coffee morning in the Trinity Arts Centre on the last Friday where non-members are very welcome.
More than 100 interest groups cover a large range of interests from art appreciation to walking. There is no age limit but members tend to be mainly no longer in full time employment. The groups are run by members, usually in their homes; members learn from each other, sharing their skills and life experiences. Members join groups by contacting the relevant Group Contact.
We also have a very active Committee who organises visits to places of interest, theatres etc. most months, with members paying for each outing they attend. A monthly newsletter keeps members informed. We are a lively and friendly group of people with a wide variety of skills and life experiences who are happy to share our knowledge, learn from others and develop new interests.
Every U3A is run independently, but needs to follow U3A fundamental principles.
The Self-help Learning Principles of the U3A Movement
- Members form interest groups covering as wide a range of topics and activities as they desire; by the members, for the members.
- No qualifications are sought or offered. Learning is for its own sake, with enjoyment being the prime motive, not qualifications or awards.
- No payments are made to members for services rendered to any U3A. No payments are made to outside tutors.
