poetry

The Poetry group meets once a month on the fourth Thursday of the month for 1.5 to 2 hours.
We all decide on a topic at a meeting and then bring one or sometimes 2 poems on that topic to the next meeting. It helps to print out copies, although it's not essential.
Everyone reads their poem and we discuss them as we go along. Sometimes two people bring the same poem, but it doesn't seem to matter.
We discuss the theme, and also how the poem is built up the rhymes and the metre, although not in depth.
Themes are things like autumn, the sea, or colours and sometimes we take a poet such as Auden or Keats. We often choose a poet in an anniversary year. There are several people in the current group who can take the lead although it helps if one person does the admin. arranging dates and venues.
We meet in each other's homes as you need the quiet and 8 is really the maximum number of people, because you need time to read and discuss all the poems.

The group is now full, so we are in the process of advertising to start a new group

Meetings: 4th Thursday at 10.00am
